UpTime and Midcon Recovery Solutions have formed a partnership to operate a new data storage bunker capable of withstanding the strongest tornadoes. The data storage bunker with 4,400 square feet of usable space features 12-inch-thick double steel reinforced poured concrete walls and an 18-inch-thick floor, said Kurt Kraft, president of Midcon Recovery Services. “This is the only area data storage facility built for resiliency and redundancy,” he said. Individually, Edmond-based UpTime and Midcon of Oklahoma City offer different products and services. UpTime provides data storage, security, recovery and management services. Midcon provides facilities for data storage. “UpTime will be in charge of the technical end, and Midcon will be in charge of real estate and the structure,” said Rolf Strasheim, marketing manager with UpTime. The data storage bunker at 13431 Broadway Extension just south of W. Memorial Road is owned by Midcon Recovery Solutions. “UpTime will bring value-added service and expertise to current Midcon clients, allowing us to focus on our facilities and facility solutions,” Kraft said. The facility’s two 2,200-square-foot bunkers were designed to serve large and small clients. “We can accommodate the smallest customers and the biggest companies,” he said. Bunker space can be designed for enclosures and private suites to limit access to data. The bunker has redundant power and heating and cooling capabilities. The bunker is actually a building within a building, Kraft said. The building was formerly used by Brown Manufacturing and the Oliver Automotive Group. The data storage bunker was built within the existing building and is surrounded by office space. “UpTime has chosen to work with Midcon because its state-of-the-art facility guarantees clients their data will be protected through any adverse event, be it Mother Nature or another disruptive occurrence,” said Merrill Likes, UpTime president. Services offered to bunker customers include alternative business continuity facilities, engineering resources and disaster recovery planning. Even if a company does not lose its data, employees may not have access to the data. “The risk is not only that something will happen to your data and structure but that you will not be able to get to your structure,” Kraft said. Midcon will provide space in the building so companies can continue operating. “We have space in the building for a war room for people who might need to work in this building,” Likes said. “We can work with the customer to set up their backup operations at the bunker.” UpTime can help customers prepare for disasters. “We will help the customer set up a dry run so they will know what to do in case of an emergency,” he said. A contingency planning seminar is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Nigh University Center in Edmond. The seminar will include a tour of the data service bunker. The cost of the seminar is $29. Registration information is available at www.midcondata.com.
